The Esquire Tavern
Calm, retro and stylish, this prohibition-inspired bar celebrated the re-introduction of the liquor industry. One of the absolutely oldest bars on the River Walk, this classic San Antonio establishment brings in a dynamic crowd; from skaters and hipsters, to celebrities and high-class individuals. The Esquire locally sources their craft beers and pub food, including a variety of burgers and snacks.

This next bar, Ochi, resides inside the Hotel Havana; located adjacent to San Antonio’s Museum of Art. One of most casual bars on the River Walk, you could waste the day away from the calming scenery. Once you finally make it inside, the upstairs has a room filled with Hawaiian décor with a quaint, but fantastic bar. Tables pour into their outdoor area which hosts a variety of events such as live music. On the flipside of the bar (ie. Downstairs), is another bar made up of relaxing leather lounge chairs and lined with a variety of delectable spirits. If drinking is only half the reason you want to visit this location. The other half is their traditional Latin-American food, using Caribbean recipes to WOW just about everyone.

I don’t want to inflate this Bar’s ego, but 1919 has the most extensive collection of whiskies in all of San Antonio. Located in the Blue Star Arts Complex, this cocktail-focused bar leans towards exotic presentation of their drinks, with prices for their spirits almost as inflated. During the weekends, this place has every Millennial in the SA area at this bar, with the rest of the weekdays being very relaxed. The staff is extremely fluent in their malts, mixtures, and general pairing techniques; which works nicely with their assortment of imported foods such as charcuterie, cheeses, and much more.
