How is Yoast SEO Plugin Set-up?
It is important to note that there is the free version of Yoast SEO and the Yoast SEO Premium. For a WordPress website, Yoast SEO offers a complete solution for your SEO needs. By following the next steps, you will understand how you can set-up Yoast SEO.
In the WordPress admin area, go to the plugins section. Click on Plugins >add new, next type Yoast SEO in the search bar. Click on install and activate.
After Yoast SEO plugin activation, you will see a new item in the admin area labeled SEO. After installation of the SEO plugin, the next important step is enabling the advanced settings. You can do this by clicking on the SEO> Dashboard> >Features>> Advanced setting pages then click on enable.
It is important to note that if you are downloading Yoast SEO plugin to a website that was already running on another SEO plugin; you import all the previous data into the new plugin before deactivating the previous SEO plugin.
You can do this by clicking on SEO > Tools > Import > Import from other SEO plugins.
If you were previously using a different SEO tool from the ones listed, it is best to use the SEO Data Transporter. If it is a new blog or website, then this step is not necessary.
After enabling the advanced settings feature, the new items will appear on the menu. What follows is submitting your site or blog to Bing, Yandex, Alexa, and Google. You can do this by clicking on SEO> Dashboard> Webmaster Tools.
Click on Titles and Meta on the Yoast dashboard.
Under the titles and meta, there is the general, homepage, post types, taxonomies, archives, and other sections.
For the general setting, chose the symbol that you would like to use as a separator.
Next, configure the homepage settings and posts types. Under the post type, you can define the searching aspects of your blog’s page, post, and the media.
Click on the taxonomies tab and configure the meta and titles for tags and categories. For taxonomies and archives, it is best to keep the categories and the tags as no-index, but it is best to follow your own plan.
Disable the author archives if you are the only author of the blog to avoid duplicate content.
Now, enable the XML sitemap, as they will help your site to be indexed. Sitemaps also notify the search engines about your new content.
Understanding the Meta Tags
Meta tags help the search engines to position and understand the content of the blog. It is important to note that the meta tags do not make the site to rank higher. Instead, they make the website or blog and the ranking efforts to be effective.
Besides, setting up the Yoast SEO plugin, optimize the settings depending on a post. When editing a post or page, check the meta box labeled Yoast SEO. Use the meta box to write a meta description and a custom title.
In the search results snippet and in the browser bar you can find the title tag. Therefore, it is an ideal place to insert a keyword. Below the title, you will find the description tag, and it is the perfect place to make your site appealing to the search engine. Next, we have the social tags that make the content more shareable in the social media. Search engines prioritize the social signals and thus the need for optimizing social media activity.
Search engine optimization takes huge efforts, but Yoast SEO takes care of almost all the technical aspects of optimizing. As a site owner, you have to work on the content side and come up with a competitive searching strategies.
